The ASEAN IP Academy, in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and supported by the IP Academy of the IP Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), is launching its second training program on the topic of “IP and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expression (GRTKTCE)”.
This program is targeted at IP officials, researchers, GRTKTCE practitioners, lawyers, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders in ASEAN. The program aims to provide the target audience with a knowledge about current issues of IP and GRTKTCE and to develop skills to propose possible policy solutions to the future of GRTKTCE regulation in the region.
By the end of the three-day training program, participants will be able to differentiate between the different features of GRTKTCE, assess the possible ways for GRTKTCE protection and understand the concerns, challenges and limitations of GRTKTCE protection in existing legal systems. The program will also discuss the role of IP in commercializing GRTKTCE products and the processes for GRTKTCE database creation.
This program is conducted free of charge and will be held from 22-24 November 2023 at 1.30 – 4.30 pm Jakarta Time (GMT+7)/ 2.30 – 5.30 pm Philippine Time (GMT+8) via Zoom. The IPOPHL through its IP Academy, in partnership with World Intellectual Property Office, will conduct a webinar entitled “WIPO Webinar - IP & Women: Training on Patents & the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) for Women Innovators & Entrepreneurs” on November 15, 2023, via zoom. This webinar aims at creating a level-playing field in terms of knowledge, dissemination, and capacity building on patent, PCT and PCT-related services provided by WIPO to women in IP.
The Next Steps: Intellectual Property is a capacity building program specially designed for youth start-ups under the Arise Plus Ye! Boost Accelerator program of the International Trade Centre.

The IP and Emerging Technologies - with a special focus on Artificial Intelligence program is targeted at IP Officials, researchers, technology specialists and policy makers in ASEAN. The program aims to enable participants to identify challenges posed by the different types of emerging technologies, propose suitable IP protection for these technologies and get a sense of how AI is being used to support and streamline procedures in the IP Office.
The four day training program will include topics on challenges and opportunities presented by emerging technologies such as generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Metaverse, Blockchain and Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs). It will also explore the intersection between AI and human creativity and its protection under Copyright.
This program will be held from 22-25 August at 2.30 – 5.30 pm (GMT+8) via Zoom.
In celebration of the Buwan ng Wika, the IP Academy holds the the IP Forward Lenggwahe series. This program aims to introduce Intellectual Property concepts using one of the four main local languages of the Philippines-- Cebuano.

The program aims to provide media personalities and professionals knowledge about IP rights, the IP system, and the different processes and procedures relevant to the protection and enforcement of their IP rights, that are vital in their artistic creations, media content, and business activities.

The IP Forward is a targeted short training program on Intellectual Property catering to specific needs of different sectors of the Philippine society. The first part of the IP Forward >> IP Policy for the Legal Education Board (LEB) aims to equip LEB personnel with necessary Intellectual Property system knowledge and skills useful for developing an IP Policy for their institution. The second part is a workshop focusing on the development of the IP Policy of LEB.

The IP Forward>> IP Masterclass for Fashion Industry Professionals is a training program specially tailored for fashion industry professionals who are looking to gain a deeper understanding of intellectual property (IP) and its role in the fashion industry. This program covers key concepts and best practices related to trademark, copyright, and patent law as they pertain to fashion design and branding. The program is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of IP law and its role in the fashion industry and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to effectively protect and leverage IP in their professional endeavours.
Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions that will highlight contemporary issues and challenges faced by fashion industry professionals in protecting and enforcing their IP rights.
The program is suitable for fashion designers, brand managers, fashion marketers, and anyone else who is interested in understanding the legal aspects of the fashion industry.
